Rescuing Frozen Embryos: Is Adoption a Valid Moral Option?

March 23

When I speak publically on bioethical issues, the topic I most frequently address is the problem of the terrible exploitation of human embryos.

I tell my audience that as of 2003 the estimated number of frozen embryos at IVF clinics in the United States was approximately 400,000.[1] I add that that number increases annually by approximately 19,000 [2], which puts estimates in 2010 at between 500,000 and 600,000 frozen human embryos. I tell them that although the largest percentage of those embryos are formally earmarked in the IVF registers for "future pregnancies," everyone knows that the majority of couples who successfully conceive through IVF never again choose to go through the harrowing experience (including repeating the $20,000 price tag); and so it is reasonable to assume that the majority of those 600,000 human beings will never be implanted into a female uterus and hence will die.

Christian Foster Parents Punished When Child Converts from Islam

March 23

In the United Kingdom, Christians feel their freedoms are being eroded bit by bit and the government's reaction to a Muslim girl's conversion to Christianity is one example.

The British government revoked the registration of a Christian foster parent after a 16-year-old Muslim girl converted to Christianity while in her care.

None of the parties in the case can be named to protect the girl despite her no longer being a minor.

'Pro-Life' Democrat Stupak Stripped of 'Defender of Life' Award

March 23

In response to Rep. Bart Stupak's announcement that he and other self-labeled "pro-life" Democrats will vote in favor of Healthcare reform legislation with the addition of an Executive Order from the White House to address concerns about abortion funding, Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund President Marjorie Dannenfelser offered the following statement:

"This Wednesday night is our third annual Campaign for Life Gala, where we were planning to honor Congressman Stupak for his efforts to keep abortion-funding out of health care reform-we will no longer be doing so. By accepting this deal from the most pro-abortion President in American history, Stupak has not only failed to stand strong for unborn children, but also for his constituents and pro-life voters across the country.

Student Free to Wear 'Abortion Is Not HealthCare' T-shirt

March 23

Officials at West Shore School District in Pennsylvania have agreed to lift a ban that prevented at least one middle school student from wearing an "Abortion is not Healthcare" T-shirt.

In response to the policy revisions, Alliance Defense Fund attorneys on Wednesday filed a notice of voluntary dismissal of the lawsuit they had pursued on behalf of the student.

"Public schools should not censor pro-life students for their views," said ADF Senior Legal Counsel David Cortman, in a statement. "School district officials have done the right thing in recognizing this young man's First Amendment right to express his beliefs. We commend the revision of their unconstitutional policies so that students can engage in free speech protected by the First Amendment."

Girl Scouts Hiding Secret Sex Agenda with Planned Parenthood?

March 23

A witness who attended the 54th session of United Nations' Commission on the Status of Women has unleashed a firestorm of controversy after reporting copies of Planned Parenthood's teen-sex promoting guide, "Healthy, Happy and Hot," were provided for Girl Scouts in attendance.

The Girl Scouts organization, in turn, has issued a denial statement, distancing itself from any involvement in "family planning," despite clear evidence to the contrary.

Sharon Slater of Family Watch International and Stand for the Family was at the New York City event when organizers ushered all adults - save for one from each of seven sponsoring organizations - out of the room for a "girls only workshop" that the Girl Scouts of the USA reports 30-35 teenage girls attended.

"The woman acknowledged the comment," Patti said,"and left crying. She did not return!"

Police Told Don't Ask for 'Christian' Names, It Offends

March 23

Police in Kent have been banned from asking for a person's "Christian" name, in case it offends people from other faiths.

The call has been met with dismay, with one experienced officer calling it politically correct "nonsense".

And the Plain English Campaign questioned whether there really was anyone from other faiths who would be offended.

Dems Use Obama Executive Order on Abortion Funding to Get Enough HealthCare Bill Votes

March 23

Apparently unable to find enough votes for the pro-abortion Senate health care bill and with talks breaking down on how to allow Rep. Bart Stupak a vote on some sort of motion or bill to stop abortion funding, Democrats appear to be relying on a potential executive order to corral more votes for the bill.

The idea is to promise an executive order from President Barack Obama to stop the massive abortion funding and promotion in the Senate measure.

The goal is to pacify Stupak and a coalition of pro-life Democrats threatening to vote against the Senate bill without abortion funding removed.
